Home chemist whips up custom-scent candles NAPLES - What started 10 years ago in Connecticut for a woman with sensitive skin is now a Maine-based business for all to enjoy. Margo's Jewels, unique, handcrafted soaps, candles and gifts, owned and operated solely by Margo McKenzie, is making its way into retail shops in the Lakes region, as McKenzie settles into the area. Although her ancestors called Maine home, McKenzie lived in Milford, Conn., where she worked quality assurance liaison for Sikorsky, the aircraft and helicopter manufacturer. It was an exciting job where she worked with foreign governments and in helicopter production. Meanwhile, as a hobby at home, McKenzie made soaps for herself and her daughter, Jewel. "I had sensitive skin so I started making my own skin products because I couldn't use what was on the market," McKenzie said. The soaps were followed by all-natural lip balms and lotions. |
